Every so often, Matthew and I take a short staycation somewhere. A staycation is essentially a short leisure vacation you take at home or nearby. Think, enhanced relaxation minus the travel stress. Between the never ending to-do list at home and high energy kids running around, we can’t truly relax or spend intentional quality time with each other at home. This is why we take time to get away from the chores, distractions, and truly unplug with each other.
This year, we just came back from a busy holiday travel across country and the last thing we wanted to do for our anniversary was drive or fly anywhere more than 30 minutes. One area we really love nearby is West Palm Beach. We love that everything we like to do is walking distance. The restaurants, the shopping, the activities… it’s all there. We had previously stayed at the Hilton West Palm Beach except with all the kids. It was amazing with them, so we couldn’t wait to experience it with just the two of us.
As soon as we arrived, we headed down to their gorgeous pool and jumped into a cabana. The pool is massive with areas to relax, tuck away from everyone, and even a large area for kids to run around and play games. The La Playa restaurant by the pool made some amazing spicy margaritas and a pretty cute coconut drink too. We had the best shrimp ceviche and fresh grapefruit. They even surprised us with another bottle of champagne. Despite it being “winter time” the weather was incredible the entire weekend with sunny skies and a light breeze! Pinching myself because I can’t believe we live here.
Everything is walking distance from the hotel. The Hilton is right next to a popular shopping center, tons of restaurants, bars, and you could even jump on one of the community bikes and take it across the bridge to the ocean… it’s that close. We walked to a rooftop yoga class at Treehouse and then another block over got some pedicures at the Venetian Spa. When I say I wanted a zero stress weekend, I meant it!
We love the hotel so we stayed there for the most part. What we love to do on our staycations is eat so we plan our days around it. The restaurant inside the hotel, the Galley, was gorgeous during the day and night. We spent our last meal there and couldn’t believe how good every dish was. Our amazing waiter, Jason, brought out his personal favorites from the menu and he did not disappoint. I mean, I was impressed by a sweet potato filled with goat cheese let alone the incredible sea bass, steak, and Japanese spiced cauliflower.
We completely relaxed wavering from the pool, to the room, room to the pool until our short weekend came to an end. We hadn’t felt this relaxed in a long time, but we were fully recharged in love and life and ready to get back to our busy schedules. If you’re needing a break, let this be your sign and book that staycation!
P.S. Check out other places we love to visit here or easier ways to travel with kids here.
