“I will not plan an elaborate birthday party for my 1-year old who will not remember a thing!” – is what I told Matthew months before Pia’s elaborate 1st birthday floatie theme party.

I actually think most parents think this way until they begin planning. I swore to myself that I would not buy anything that I could not reuse again, which I did stick to, however, we did go a little overboard with her party. Contemplating what theme to plan her party around, I couldn’t imagine throwing a princess party when she didn’t even know what a princess was!

At the time of planning (as well as now) she had two real loves, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and water. Quite frankly, I don’t even know that she actually loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse since she’s only really engaged for the duration of the theme song. Bath time is her favorite, thank the Lord we never had to fight her to get clean. So a pool party seemed all but too perfect; a floatie themed birthday party, even better! Pool floaties were everywhere! And despite the lack of floatie-themed party ideas on Pinterest, Michaels, Fantasytoyland.com, and Amazon came through for me!

How much is too much for a baby’s first birthday? Honestly, I think we may have been too extra this year, but to our credit, we only anticipate planning a party for the milestone birthdays (5, 10, sweet 16, 18… if she lets us).  Are we the only ones here??

Obviously we had to have floatie bowl holders!

We handed out Floatie cup holders
as the party favor. We had so many variations, they were all so adorable!

Floatie coolers
fit perfectly with our theme and reusable for any party. It even has a drain hole on the bottom to drain the melted ice out.

Since it was a baby party, I thought it was only right to have baby party hats. How cute are these mini hats from Urban Outfitters?

For the 3rd time we attempted the smash cake. She basically stared at it until Matthew smashed some on her mouth which she then froze in this position for a good 2 minutes haha! I don’t know what it is, but we need to embrace the fact that our child will not partake in smashing of any kind of cake.

She partied so hard in the pool that she passed out for about 60% of her party. Still cute though right??
